Haridwar is an ancient city in the district of Haridwar of Uttarakhand, India. The River Ganges, after flowing across 253Km from the source named as Gaumukh at the edge of the Glacier of Gangotri, does enter the Indo-Gangetic plains of the North India for the initial stage at Haridwar due to which it got the name Gangadwara. It is referred to as one of the seven holiest places of Sapta Puri via Hindus. It is having two spellings which are mentioned as Haridwar and Hardwar.
