Lakshadweep Island – 36 Islands

Lakshadweep is a group of 36 Islands off the South-west Coast of India.It is an archipelago of 12 atolls, 3 reefs and 5 submerged banks. The main Islands are Kavaratti, Agatti, Minicoy, and Amini. Most of the population is Muslim. The Island forms the smallest Union territory of India. It has few of the most beautiful Islands and beaches of India however part of the islands have been kept detached from tourists to preserve their natural habitat. Each island has a magnificent lagoon and marine life.Here you can enjoy swimming, snorkelling or diving. Mentioning about individual island below.


Agatti is one of the most beautiful island in Lakshadweep. Visitors here can enjoy the unforgettable experience of watching sunrise and sunset beyond soothing, turquoise water with multi coloured water life, immense coconut trees, white sand beach and coral reef. The eastern beach has brilliant white coral of all shapes and size. You can get glimpse of colourful fishes in sheer water. The water of this island is so shallow that one can easily walk in it. It has the only airport of these Islands. Golden jubilee Museum, Mohiyudeen Mosque, Kalpitty Island, Thinakara  Island, Parali-1 and parali-2 are few places to visit


It is a satellite island of Thinakara and just 5 nautical miles of Agatti. This island has calm water in all seasons, Has beautiful aqutic lfe and corel reef which attracts divers from all over the world.


This island has one of the most beautiful beach of white sand surrounded by turquoise lagoon in Lakshadweep. Also the sunset here gives unforgettable experience. It is one of the most irresistible  coral stretches in Asia.


It is a short strip of land with three satellite isles( an island consisting of a circular coral reef surrounding a logon). This island is 3km long and 1.5 km wide. The water here is shallow and sea life is beautiful. Snorkelling is not easy here as water is very shallow and full of pointed water debris.


It is the administrative centre of the Lakshadweep union territory and a busy place. This island has narrow busy shore, littered with waste because of which it fails to attract tourists. Ujra mosque in this island is beautiful and was built by Sheikh Mohammad Kasim in 17th century. It has a museum cum aquarium of different varieties of shell corals and many species of fishes.


Minicoy is organised into 9 villages with unique cultural traditions. This beautiful island has a beach with a lake surrounding by clump of mangroves on the Lakshadweep island. This lake is not only beautiful but also home to many water bodies like crab, turtle and fish which can be seen from an overbridge. The light house offers  unparalleled view of the vast sea and Minicoy island. Tuna canning factory is the pride of this island.

How to go

The only best option available to these magnificent islands is by air. As Agatti has the only airport it is the entry and exit to this area and will take 1 hr from Kochi to reach here.

The other option is through sea but it will take 20 to 22 hrs from Kotchi to reach Aggatti Island.
