Munnar is located on the confluence of three mountains streams – Nallathanni, Mudrapuzha and Kundala. It is 1600 m above the sea level, and once upon a time it used to be a summer resorts of erstwhile British Government in south India.  It is divided into two parts old Munnar –where you could find most of the tourist information and Munnar- where you could find lots of hotels and bus stand. It is also one of the common destinations for Honeymooners. It is quite famous for tea plantations and most of them are started by British. One of the tea brands named “Kannan Devan from the Tata is processed and cultivated over here. The best time to visit Munnar would be seasons from August till March. For people who are inclined towards shopping for them it’s a heaven for tea and spices. You could collect different spices like clove, Coffee, pepper, ginger etc.

How to reach Munnar?

It is South India’s largest region for growing tea and the rolling hills around the Munnar are carpeted in the emerald –green plantation, clipped and contoured like the hedges of ornamental. The lower mountain scenery is quite magnificent.

  • Via Air

Cochin international Airport also well known as Nedumbassery Airport and CIAL is the nearest airport which is just 110Km away from Munnar via Road. Madurai International Airport is another option which is 140Km from Munnar via the national highway 49.

  • Via Train

One of the closest railway station is Aluva which is 110km, Madurai which is 135 Km and Emakulum which is 130Km. You could get direct regular buses to Munnar which starts from 6AM.

  • Via Bus/Car

Some of the cities from which the distances could be measured via car are- Cochin (130Km), Aluva (110 Km), Coimbatore (160 Km), Madurai (135 Km), Alleppey (180 Km), Pollachi (120 Km) etc.

Bus station of Munnar is on the Main Street and Main Bazaar. One fact which is important for tourist is that maximum of boards on the buses are in Malayalam instead of in English. It is recommended that you should check out from locals in every 15minutes or ask for hang around the office of bus to checkout for the point of buses.

It is quite famous for the fish curry.
