RANIKHET – Queens Land

Ranikhet is one of the new districts which have been carved out of the Almora district. It is at an altitude of 1900m (6233Ft) within the sight of the snow clad of Western Himalayans, which is a quaint hill town.  There is the belief that king Raja Sudhardev was successful in winning the heart of the queen named Rani Padmini, due to which she decided her destination for staying which she mentioned it as Queen’s Meadow.  It is just 63 Km from Nainital and its beauty lies in the simplicity of pine trees which is creating the nostalgic feelings. It is the home for the Kumaon regiment and regiment of Naga which is maintained by Indian Army.

How to reach Ranikhet?

The weather at Ranikhet is moderate and quite pleasant during the summers but it does seem quite cold in winter. The array of the wild life which are included in Ranikhet area are-Mountain Goats, Leopards, Sambar, Barking deer, Indian hare, red foxes and so on. Ranikhet was previously under the rule of Nepal, and the Kumaonese won it under the leadership of the General Kashi Nath Adhikari.

The closest Airport for Ranikhet is Pantnagar which is situated 115Km from Ranikhet. Taxis are easily available for Haldwani, Ranikhet, Almora and Nainital. It is connected with Delhi as it is having 4 flights on regular basis.

Kathgodam is the nearest railway station for Kausani which is situated at the distance of 88Kms. It is well connected with the Railway networks with popular locations like Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata. Trains are quite frequent to Kathgodam for the Kumaon region. Taxis and buses are quite easily available to Ranikhet from Kathgodam. Ramnagar railway station is just 96Km from Ranikhet.

  • Via Bus/Car

It is well suited with respect to motorable roads with major destinations of the Northern India. Buses to Almora and Kathgodam can be taken via Anand Vihar and taxis are also available quite easily. The distance from Ranikhet to Delhi is just 360 Kms if you are travelling via Moradabad and Babugarh. The distance could be covered in just 10 hours drive.
